Dear [Recipients Name],

I apologize as I will not be able to host the dinner and am withdrawing the invitation. Alan has been admitted to the hospital due to ill health. He has had a mild stroke, and the doctors are not sure until the results return. We both were very excited to meeting you, but I am sure you understand our problem.

In the future, we can arrange many dinners again.

Sincerely,
